How to Spend a Rainy Day in Houston

Houston hasn’t ever been described as an “outdoorsy” town, yet, some Houstonians might feel limited whenever it’s rainy.

We never want you to have to resort going to the big box that starts with G, so here are plenty of alternatives.

Coffee Shops

Maybe this is an obvious first choice? Find a friend, grab a book, or take your journal to a coffee shop. If you’re looking to explore, maybe you go to a new coffee shop that you haven’t visited, and ask for something unique from that place. We know Inversion has a really great Lavendar Latte, and Boomtown has a unique menu worth visiting. There’s plenty of coffee shops listed in our Coffee Tour Guide.

Museums

The second go-to on a rainy after after having the coffee to fuel the morning. If you’re reading this on a Thursday, you’re in even more luck because most museums are free today. One of our favorite experiences in town is visiting the The Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. You can view more museums in our Museum Guide.

Go to a Show

There’s plenty of places to see live theater in town. Catastrophic Theater at The MATCH (Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston) is one of our favorites, and offers affordable, amazing performances throughout the year. There are plenty of other places you can see a show to stay inside.
